Torah Scrolls caught in the looting of the Iraqi Museum. The above picture shows some of the Scrolls which had been kept in the museum. At the mass aliya of the 1950-51, the community left behind some 3,000 Sefarim. Several hundreds were sent to Jewish communities all over the world, and the Iraq government decided to keep a number of the Scrolls in the museum as part of the national heritage. Today these Scrolls would cost $30,000 each to write by a qualified scribe.
